Foreboding

Tonight the strings
Of my heart
Plays no song,
Its notes frozen…
Only an echo of
Impending fear
And unease,
Intangible but real
Looms like a shadow.
The cloying silence
Whispers and rasps
Foreboding an omen,
While my beating heart
Squirms and begs
For release.
The night is deathly still
As if it awaits…
Watching …
Dark clouds swirl
Overhead…
Words, comforting words
Are lost somewhere
In this disquiet.
I sit alone and wait…
Something is looming
Around the corner…

  29. Rachel, Jessica and Bonnie thank you. Actually it gave me the creeps writing this poem. I really felt something ominous approaching that day. Nothing happened though, just a false alarm.
