I am not the photographer….Ron is!

I am not the photographer….Ron is!

When I saw the invitation from Mari Sterling Wilbur (http://mariscamera.blogspot.com) asking for photographs to be sent to her so that they could be featured in her posts, I just took a cursory glance at all the talented people who accepted her invitation. I am not a photographer, alright I like taking pictures but more than that I love being photographed!! I couldn’t think of any pictures that were saved in my folders that could be sent, they were all of ME!! I am not a narcissist, so what if I pester my son all the time to take my pictures! My son, Ron is my designated photographer. My camera guy! Poor boy, he hates it because most of the times he can’t go click, click, click, with the camera photographing what he likes but gets blackmailed into taking mine. I know sometimes on purpose he takes such unattractive pictures of me so as to discourage me from asking him.

It then struck me to send some of his photos to Mari. The ones featured in her post were taken last year. We had gone to Shillong, a scenic hill station also the capital of Meghalaya (Land of clouds); it is a three hour drive from where we stay. The entire way is beautiful, like the name says you can almost touch the clouds as you climb up the hills. Just short of Shillong there is this place called Barapani (Big water). It is a huge lake and it is breathtaking. We stopped by and explored. Ron was thrilled to take off taking shots but not before he took a few mine. The caterpillars in the pictures are huge and they camouflage with the bark of pine trees that are everywhere. For more do visit Mari’s blog, she is a gifted photographer who shares tips on photography and we all come back from after reading her posts educated. Thank you once again Mari for featuring Ron.

Questions???

Questions???

Have you ever wondered why sometimes people ask you a question that is most irrelevant? I’m not talking of a rhetoric one here, I’m being polite and not saying they are the most stupid and dumb questions but in all honesty they are stupid with a capital “S”. A few days back a friend sent me some real classic dumb questions. Here are a few examples:

Ø  When you get woken up at midnight by a phone call...
Stupid Question:-

Sorry. Were you sleeping?
Answer:-

No. I was doing research on whether the Zulu tribes in Africa marry or not. You thought I was sleeping.... you dumb witted moron.

Ø  When you see a friend/colleague with evidently shorter hair...
Stupid Question:-

Hey have you had a haircut?
Answer:-

No, it’s autumn and I'm shedding

Ø  You are smoking a cigarette and a cute woman asks...
Stupid Question:-

Oh, so you smoke.
Answer: -

Gosh, it's a miracle .......it was a piece of chalk and now it's in flames!!!

Ø  At the movies: When you meet acquaintances/ friends…
Stupid Question:-

Hey, what are you doing here?
Answer:-

Don’t you know, I sell tickets in black over here?

Ø  In the bus: A heavy lady wearing pointed high-heeled shoes steps on your feet...
Stupid Question:-

Sorry, did that hurt?
Answer:-

No, not at all, I'm on local anesthesia.....why don't you try again?

I think most times people ask you a question just for the heck of it! Maybe to keep a conversation going, or at times a question is asked just out of sheer habit. You may be down in the dumps and someone asks you “How are you?”….”Hello! Are you a moron? Can’t you see I’m dying here?”

However, in a lover’s world everything is permissible. “Do you miss me?”, “Do you love me?”, “How much do you love me?” and you are sure to get an answer back from the heart! “I love you baby”, “I miss you all the time”, “You have no idea how much I love you”. A conversation like this can be repeated at least three times in a span of a day and it is considered normal and not dumb! Every time you hear your lover reaffirming how much he or she loves you and misses you, you are literally swooning. But for a bystander it can be pretty exasperating…”What’s wrong with these people? Didn’t she just hear him say “I love you” so why the hell is she asking the same question? And why on earth is he answering her again? They love each other, so they are together! They miss one another, so they spend as much time together! So what’s their problem?” …..”Excuse me! You haven’t yet fallen in love! Just you wait and watch when love tiptoes into your heart!”

Then you have the after breakup questions. He calls you and asks you “How have you been?” and you answer in your sweetest confident voice “I am doing good”. Pride, hurt and pain hold you back. You are not about to open up your heart to him. You had done that, laid bare your soul and look where it got you? So you pretend everything is picture perfect. You are having a ball! So what if he is not in your life? You are not about to tell him that even counting sheep at night can’t get you to sleep, that you sob every night, missing him and wanting him back. As for him, does he ask you because he needs to ask or is he genuinely concerned about you? I wonder…In all probability he holds on to his breath when he asks you how you have been and lets out a sigh of relief when you say you are ok. He doesn’t want to go in there so he moves onto more polite questions and she lets him. It is only after he hangs up you think of the choicest of retorts but it is too late.

Questions! They can really put you into a dilemma at times. You are at a loss for answers so you are polite and give the person exactly what he or she wants to hear or at times you are plain rude and shut the person up. We are all questioning and seeking answers about our life and the universe but that is for another day to contemplate about. Today it is all about questions that make you wonder….

LOST

A lone tear trailed,
His sad eyes
Cried silently...
A long journey
A lonely path
Of love falling apart
As it made its way
Down his tormented face…
I stood watching
Blinded by my own
My heart heaving
As cascades of
Pearly, weeping tears
Stung my face
He was a man…
Giving into crying
Something alien
But that grey day
His cracked heart
Triumphed…
A sparkling gem
Precious and invaluable
Escaped its prison
And trickled down
Containing in its
Crystal bubble
Volumes of pain,
Sadness and loss.
I look back now
And wish I had
Saved that gem
Stopped its course
Midway…
Captured it in a bottle
A priceless pearl…
Crystallized in time forever
But I floundered
In my grief,
As the tiny drop
Splashed on his
Heavy chest
Lost forever…
One last look
At his otherwise
Stoic face
Now rife with
Unspoken emotions,
I walked away
Sacrificing love
At the altar of tears.

Hope and Wait...

Hope and Wait…

“Hope is itself a species of happiness, and, perhaps, the chief happiness which this world affords”
                                                                                                                                                                      Samuel Johnson

I think of hope and I think of waiting…we hope and we wait for it to become a reality. We desire therefore we hope. Sometimes they are fulfilled; sometimes a lifetime is over without realizing them. Our only possession in this world is hope, without it, the brightness of our life is gone. And we wait…sometimes lifetimes. But is that all needed for our desires to be realized? Just hope and wish? And yet it is also said that if you desire something intensely the whole universe conspires to give it to you. So am I underestimating the power of hope, desire and the mind? Or do we strive towards that desire by working at it in the hope they will be ours….whatever we long for? Or do we just sit and wait and hope? What happens when the person you love and desire to spend your life with shuts the door? All he does is sit behind that closed door and hopes, afraid to step out and meet his love halfway? While his lover sits on the other side of the closed door and waits, stoking the flames of hope, knowing nothing can happen unless that door is opened by him.

My hungry eyes long for a glimpse of you,
My empty ears wait to be drowned in your voice,
My lost soul cries to become one with you,
My body thirsting for your touch
But my broken heart mourns
For the hopelessness of all that can never be…
And wishes sometimes it hadn’t
Belonged to you, my love.
The hours are slipping
Another day is coming to an end,
Another step towards futility
While I die a thousand deaths waiting….

We have two choices…live in the present or move on. Many will say this waiting is not worth it while others say “Make the most of this present, bask in the love for who has seen the future?” It is never easy to move on… it takes courage and a complete death of that hope. We move on to other desires and hope for something new, something that has more possibilities of it being fulfilled. We move on saying it was meant to be…that is the consolation we give. But I wonder if that hope remains buried somewhere deep, the only thing that has changed is that we remove our focus from it? Perhaps not… We need to live and for us to keep life in motion desires are necessary. Therefore we hope again for something else and wait…

She wept because she needed him
She felt forlorn because
She wanted to be lost in his strong embrace,
The façade of being strong and resolute
Enervate her tired limbs
She just wants to be a woman
To her man
To be held close to his heart
Safely cocooned in his warm presence
Not a visitor to her lonely evenings…
Is it too much to ask for?
She wonders aloud…

The fragrance of her soul must be as intoxicating
As the passion of her mind
Maybe the silvery moonlight will
Soon break through those ominous clouds
And they will hide from the glow of her face
Tears from her eyes will show her way
Like sparkling pearls
The rose petal lips will usher in
A lifetime of contentment
And companionship
Swallowing her lump
She wonders aloud…
Is it too much to ask for?

(The above verse is by a dear friend and mentor)

What say you my dear readers? Would love to get your comments.

The Darkness In Her....

The Darkness In Her….

With every turn
Of the full moon
She changes….
Mutates…
Another Jekyll and Hyde
Love, compassion,
Understanding, acceptance
All swept to a corner…
Like an evil witch
She churns and churns
Pain and hurting
In the cauldron
Of her frenzied mind.
Plotting and sub-plotting…
The cold damp recesses
Of her heart turning black
Potion after potions
Of magical charm, love,
Tears and silent appeals
Have no hold over him
Her lover…
Longing and helplessness
Turn into lashings
Till he bleeds,
Choosing to be helpless,
Patience is his forte
And all he has is
“Don’t worry baby, I love you”
Some days the words
Like a balm soothe
Her tattered and
Frayed nerves
Other days
They are like claws,
Every syllable
Digging into her soul
Screeching and screaming
Making her want to
Rip out her sick heart
Instead, frothing and fuming
She spits out venom
Emptied she wonders…
Is this love or a sick obsession?
Or just the lure of the
Forbidden fruit
That is him?
Despising what she becomes
A monstrosity
She wants to flee
This darkness that
Possesses her
But she stays rooted,
Desiring him
With a deluge like passion
Perhaps for eternity…
Pain and hellish fury
Swept to a corner

The Story Of Many.....PART II

I have been thinking of writing now for quite a few days but somehow not been able to. I guess the response to Timelessness….a collaboration has overwhelmed me and I’m bereft of words. Then the idea came to me to write a sequel to The Story Of Many…  (http://rimlybezbaruah.blogspot.com/2011/06/story-of-many.html) I want to continue with the journey of this beautiful creature after her flight away from her nest, from her soul mate. As I wrote I kept in mind a few beautiful friends of mine who are like me romantics to the core so I dedicate this to them. To you lovely ladies… Alpana Prasad, Sancheeta Biswas, Melissa Tandoc, Sulekha Rawat, and Jessica Brant. And lastly I write this for another soul sister of mine, Inky Sen who has always been a pillar of strength for me.

The Story Of Many…. PART II

Across planes and valleys she flies, willing her tired wings to continue its rhythmic flapping across the vast expanse. Alone but for the clouds and the wind to cheer and encourage her to keep moving with promises of a new home, she flaps her weary wings. The ancient, wise, majestic, snow capped mountains whisper to her of the mysteries of the world; the ever changing nature of life, of death and rebirth, of decay and renewal, of the eternal yearning of the human soul, of accepting and surrendering to life as it unfolds. She wants to shout back, “I know, I know, but I am none the wiser.” But she has no more wind in her to argue with them, all she wants is to reach her place of rest, her home of childhood days when life was simple, carefree and full of dreams. She has to rest, needs to heal before she can fly again to destinations unknown. She is going to a place where there are those close to her heart who will engulf her in their warm comforting embrace, soothing her battered soul, helping her to become whole again.

The sun is fading as it takes a dip in the western horizon. She searches for that nest amidst the play of shadow and light. As she swoops down her gaze fall on it nestled cozily among other habitats. A sense of relief and deep sadness overwhelms her…she has finally reached a destination but she has left behind something of hers forever and there was no turning back. For a moment she wants to drop dead crashing through the clouds and smashing like an egg. She finally comes to her resting nest. Love is all around as they gather her in their warmth. She allows them to fuss over her, welcoming her with their cooing words of comfort, savoring the moment she feels safe. As she drifts off to a dreamless sleep of sheer exhaustion, she knows she has a long way to go in trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life but she has loving hands to gently lift her from her bottomless pit of despair. She thinks of one in particular, a soul sister, and bird of the same feather, wise, kind, compassionate and understanding, without her life stands to become an endless blur.

Seasons have come and gone she still remains in her home. In moments of despair she is tormented by thoughts of him, her soul mate. Nights sometimes seem endless as she tosses and turns fraught with questions…does he think of her, does he  miss her like she misses him, or has he gone away so far that she does not even cross his mind? The questions and doubts keep her awake till she has to shake herself out of this obsession and concentrate on all those that love her, grateful to the almighty that she is surrounded by love. Her soul sister is by her side always, patiently listening to her as she pours out all the pain of broken promises and buried desires, comforting her with compassion and understanding. They talk endlessly.

What is it with women like them who love like they do, who would move heaven and earth for their love? Men weren’t like that, they are not ruled by the heart, and they will weigh the pros and cons of the situation and act keeping their well being in mind. And yet not all women are like them either, they are smart and practical. They would never relinquish their position, they are happy living their lives with material comfort, their social status where the heart does not have much to say. Are they better off or are women like them who would give up everything for love live a fuller life? She shudders, thinking of the pain and agony that women like her go through, sometimes the futility of their situation almost choking them. She thinks of some of her other soul sisters, exquisite, beautiful creatures who are like her, die hard romantics who let their hearts rule them. They are all like goddesses where their men put them up high on that pedestal, swooning over their feet, (http://findingonesway.com/2011/06/unleashed/) professing undying love but not having the courage to do anything about it. They know it is hopeless and yet they cannot give up, they cannot control their heart, living their days with maybe a tiny flicker of hope that someday things will change. After all love conquers all and there have been men who have given up everything for love even their rightful throne.

Time unfolds into years. Some days are good while there are days that are never ending. She waits for the night to come just relieved that another day has ended. But she was healing with the help of her friends and loved ones. She longed to find love again, to find a mate who would be there for her. Buoyed by hope days would pass in anticipation of discovering herself again in her longing. She hoped and believed and she waited…then one night he came to her in his dreams. He was a stranger… with a twinkle in his eyes, love and compassion written all over his face as he looked at her. Something stirred in her, something that lay dormant all these years. She felt a sense of peace, as if all the wounds had finally healed. She felt a sense of belonging and she wanted to trust her heart again looking at his angelic face, strong and yet tender. She woke up with a song in her heart. It was a dream but she just knew someday soon he will walk into her life and she was ready….for love to bloom once again in her heart.

Timelessness....a collaboration

We were strangers till a year ago and then we met in Ladies Club, Alpana and I. What followed was an amazing friendship, sharing our thoughts, some happy ones some painful. We had been planning to meet someday but never really got down to actually put it into action till one day Alpana called me. She was upset about something and as we talked on an impulse I asked her to come and spend some time with me and it was decided. When we finally met it was as if we had known each other for years, we felt so at home with each other. Every day we talked till the wee hours of the morning. It was then we thought of writing something together for all our blogger friends. Both being die hard romantics we decided to write about love and passion. This collaboration is for all of you...

Timelessness....a collaboration

I had given up hope on my love, my lover. Till one day, the unexpected happened. He came back, after all these years, my love, for which I had always yearned for. We both discovered that nothing had changed between us, the love, passion we felt for each other was stronger than before. Holding hands, we walked along a familiar path, the silence of the night speaking for us.  The fresh air filling our senses, I am subdued by just being near you. Stimulated emotions, I can hardly bear, while you hold me firmly but sincerely…a silent promise.

In the darkness of the night with only the glow of the moon illuminating our bodies, I feel the warmth of your hand as it covers mine, your moist warm breath on my neck, a finger tracing my cheek, my body tingling with every touch. Uncontrollably I reach for you, aching for your touch, your every move, wanting you to ravish me with your mouth; with uninhibited passion you trace your tongue over my lips gently probing, as it enters my mouth…I kiss you with all my passion and feel your hands move over my body. Straining towards you, I feel your passion for me. Your hands tenderly caress me, exploring every inch of my body, tracing my bare breast with your fingertips…your hand enclosing it.  Slowly lowering your mouth, you kiss with a gentle tenderness, your voyage continues as you cross my navel. You ultimately reach your destination and its untainted bliss. I tilt back my head in sheer ecstasy, sweet pleasure ripping through my body. Fire burning within us, I need you to fill me with yourself. Together, we probe the depths to which we have longed for, giving of ourselves unselfishly, and accepting what the other is offering with openness and trust. We feel the fire ignite as the touching and caressing gain fervor and our bodies ride the waves in unison. With urgency we increase the rhythm of our love song. You fill me with your entire being until we explode together with contented exhaustion. Holding you as you take me to the sacred place you promised just moments before…proving to me all over again, that you are the air through which I breathe and move, you are within me, my body fevered and bruised with your kisses. You are my love, my dream, my warmth, and all that I ever wanted. It was then I realized that I was home again.

                                                                                                       Alpana Jaiswal

His lips trail
A blaze of fire
Along her contours…
A moan of pleasure
Escape from her
Hungry lips
Into the night breeze
The fire crackles
Coming alive
Its glowing ember
Shimmers on their
Intertwined limbs…
It is as if time
Has become timeless
Nothing has changed
Like the dark canopy
Of twinkling stars,
The ancient trees
With their many secrets
As they gently
Whisper in her ears,
The watery moon
As it looks down upon them,
Her lover of so many
Seasons before
Is ageless…
Surrendering to him
She unfurls in her
Splendor
Seeking, searching
Her lips wanting more…
As his full mouth
Descends on her
Pink, taut nipples
She gasps in pleasure
Her soft supple body
Arches towards him
In her desire to be taken…
He gazes into her
Fiery eyes, her passion
Burning into him
In them he sees
Her undying love
Holding back no more
He unleashes his passion
As he gently takes her
In all her glory…
The gentle whispering
Trees dance in frenzy,
The twinkling stars
Burn brighter
While the moon smiles
As they celebrate
This reunion of two souls…
With every rhythm
Every thrust
As passion rides
Glimpses of eternity
Flashes across their
Inner being…
Past, present, future
All barriers broken
They cry in unison
As they reach their crescendo
Spent and sated
They lie fused as one
Nothing has changed
Their love remains ageless…
